How to choose sine wave or square wave driver

No matter DC motor or AC motor, there are two different wave band drivers, sine wave and square wave, which could both be matched with the motor. So what’s the difference between these two drives?

motor driver

The following will start with the advantages and disadvantages of the two types of drivers:

Square wave driver:

Advantages:

  1. Matching is simple, and the controller is more reliable (simpler, more reliable)
  2. The price is cheap and the choice is wide
  3. More power saving when cruising
  4. Faster acceleration
  5. EABS braking effect is better
  6. The voltage utilization rate is high, which could directly run out of the motor MAX speed without weakening the magnetic field.

Disadvantages:

  1. Low-speed start vibration is big
  2. Loud noise
  3. Not smart enough
  4. Low heavy load efficiency

Sine wave driver:

Advantages:

  1. Good mute effect
  2. Good linear control
  3. Higher efficiency under climbing heavy load acceleration

Disadvantages:

  1. Matching is troublesome
  2. The price is higher than the square wave driver
  3. High power consumption
  4. The voltage utilization rate is only 85%~90%, and it can only run out of about 86% of the motor MAX speed
