Difference between stepper motor and servo motor
The differences between stepper motor and servo motor are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
Torque range:
Stepper motor system is generally in the range of medium and small torque (generally below 40Nm);
Servo motor system can realize full range.
Speed range:
the speed of stepper motor system is low (generally below 2000RPM, and that of large torque motor is less than 1000 rpm);
Servo motor system has high speed (AC servo can reach 5 thousand RPM, DC servo motor can reach 1 ~ 20 thousand RPM).
Control mode:
Stepper motor system is mainly position control, and it can also realize intelligent position/speed/torque control mode, and there is vibration at low speed (but it can be obviously improved by using high subdivision driver);
Closed-loop control of servo motor system, smooth operation.
Accuracy:
Generally, the accuracy of stepper motor system is lower, and it is higher when using high subdivision driver;
The accuracy of servo motor system depends on the resolution of feedback device.
Moment-frequency characteristics:
The moment of stepper motor system drops rapidly at high speed;
Servo motor system has good torque-frequency characteristics and hard characteristics.
Overload characteristics:
Stepper motor system will lose step when it is overloaded;
Servo motor system can withstand 3~10 times overload in a short time.
Feedback mode:
Most of the stepper motor systems are open-loop control, and can also receive encoder feedback to prevent out-of-step;
Servo motor system is in closed loop mode, with encoder feedback.
Encoder type:
No encoder is used for open-loop control of stepper motor system;
Servo motor system generally adopts photoelectric rotary encoder (incremental/absolute value type) and rotary transformer type.
Response speed:
The corresponding speed of stepper motor system is average;
Servo motor system is correspondingly fast.
Vibration resistance:
Stepper motor system has good vibration resistance; Servo motor system is generally vibration-resistant (resolver type is vibration-resistant).
Temperature rise:
The operating temperature rise of stepper motor system is higher;
Servo motor system is general.
Maintenance:
Stepper motor system can be basically maintenance-free; Servo motor system has good maintainability.
Price:
Stepper motor system is low in price;
Servo motor system is expensive.
